INTERDISCIPLINARY APPROACH TO SUSTAINABLE CURRICULUM IN ADDRESSING DEFORESTATION IN MALAYSIA

Many have known deforestation is an issue in Malaysia that is endangering many lives including animals and the earth itself. Deforestation is an act of removing a wide area of trees and this act has caused other environmental issues such as flood and climate change. As a developing country, some irresponsible parties have been using the ‘developing’ terms to cut trees for their own self-interest. In some other places in the country, trees were cut to build more homes and buildings for the people. According to Vizzuality (2021) Malaysia lost 122kha of natural forest, equivalent to 85.2Mt of CO2e of emissions.  To cater to deforestation, many authorities including Non-Government Organization(NGO) have come out with many plans followed by actions to help Malaysia from being hit with a more serious environmental issue caused by deforestation such as flood. Malaysia as a tropicanal country receives rains throughout the year and when monsoon season hits the ear...

UNDERSTANDING AND APPLICATION OF SEJAHTERA IN EDUCATION

Education plays an important role in the economics and social sustainable development while sejahtera is vital to ensure an education is well developed to be taught to the nation. Sejahtera can be understood as “to arrive at the state of wellbeing” or “balanced and harmonious”. As a student in a high institution and a former school student who left school 3 years ago, I can say that Malaysia is now working to improve our education system (school system) to achieve 17 sustainable development goals. The application of sejahtera in school can be seen in the classroom and also outside the classroom. I believe that school should not just be focusing on sports and academics and the action taken by the ministry is indeed right as they applied sejahtera in schools. They have put more attention in producing a student that is well prepared for today and also the future, which is after their school life. Going back to the meaning carried by the word sejahtera, education should...

REFLECTION ON CHALLENGES TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT.

As we all know, we have 17 sustainable development goals but as of this entry, I would like to focus on goal no 2 which is zero hunger. Many poor countries these days are far from reaching thus goal due to inequalities access to nutrients. According to the Star.com, children under 5 years old are most likely to suffer malnutrition compared to the adults who are most likely to become overweight. There are so many articles online, stating that low income families in Malaysia are one of those people who is lack of nutrition due to pandemic. Most of them could not afford to buy a balance food and  also the most important food for a child- milk. Milk is great in providing nutrition to kids since not all kids are good in eating solid food but milk is very familiar to them. Besides, not all kids love to eat vegetables and fruits in their daily life.  I personally think the minister should be aware because this kids are the future leader of the country. Most parents did not know...

REFLECTION OF UNGS on EDUCATION AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Education plays a big role in the economic and social sustainable development to our country. In Malaysia, our country seems to be stepping up their game in our education system with the new 21st century Learning style. As a student that finished study few years ago, I personally think that the education system should not only focusing on academics and sports but they also need to to prepare students for the real world which is after school life. For instance, sex education. Statistics have shown that the number of students from high school drop out due to being pregnant is rising. In addition, since we are all living in a pandemic, we can see that there are many articles talking about students mental health due to online learning stress. There are many students stress on juggling between study and life economically. They suffer a lot of stress because almost everything in on the edge. According to the Asean post, about 24 million students are making decision to drop out of school beca...

Enough with that, let's continue with the reflection of the week! Time flies so fast that we finally reach our last weekly challenge...lesson plan but with the photo we have took for this course. It's not that bad Alhamdulillah. When I heard the challenge, I was a little bit scared because we have been doing lesson plan for quite some times but never with a photo. It is chapter 7 with journey as the main theme. My brain did worked well this time. Alhamdulillah I managed to finish a few hours after class and that is a big achievement and improvement for me!  As much a...
